Welcome to Haygood! We are glad you are considering worshiping with us. Worshiping God is our highest priority as we seek to make disciples of Jesus Christ.
We have one worship service at 11:00 a.m. each Sunday in our sanctuary. Our worship expresses a living tradition that incorporates hymns, creeds, a children’s message, organ, piano, handbells, children’s choir, and an adult choir. We offer Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month.
Children are always welcome in our worship services as we remember the words of Jesus, “let the children come” (Matthew 19:14).
We also have a wonderful nursery available for your children. We welcome infants through 2 years.
Each Sunday we offer Sunday Schools and small groups for all ages (children and adults) at 10 a.m. To help you connect with one of our groups, please feel free to email our pastor at [email protected] who can direct you to the appropriate leaders.
Below are some frequently asked questions about worship we hope will be helpful to you.
How should I dress for worship?
Come as you are. People dress formally and casually at Haygood. You will feel comfortable dressed in dresses, suits, ties, graphic t-shirts or jeans. You will not feel out of place either way. We are glad you are here!
Are children welcome in worship?
Children are always welcome! Our hope is to help them feel valued and included in the worship experience. If children get wiggly in worship, between the front doors of our church and the Sanctuary, we have a room called the Narthex that provides space parents frequently use to calm their children or give them “running room.” Those families usually sit toward the back of the Sanctuary. We also have families who prefer to sit toward the front of the Sanctuary with their children. It is closer to the area for the Children’s Moment and provides more direct access to our nursery, Gym area (where coffee, doughnuts & orange juice are available) and outdoor playgrounds. They frequently move or are taken in and out of our Sanctuary as they or their parents feel the need. We all want them to feel welcomed and valued.
What is the children’s moment and children’s church?
Each Sunday, we invite the children forward (about 15 minutes into the service) to meet with our pastor and children’s pastor at the front of the sanctuary. We offer a lesson geared to their ages. Afterwards, we invite children ages 3 years to kindergarten to children’s church in our gym. Children’s church is a fun time for the children to learn an age-appropriate Bible lesson and to engage in meaningful activities with other children. Parents/guardians may pick up their children in the gym after worship.
Will my children be safe?
All staff and volunteers who work with children have been background checked and trained in our “Safe Sanctuary” policy that ensures the protection of children and volunteers. Our nursery workers are CPR and First Aid certified.
Will I be welcomed?
Yes. At Haygood, we believe all people are always welcome. We work to be an inclusive church to express the saving love of Jesus Christ to all people. We especially want to ensure our LGBTQ friends know they are welcome here. We hope you will find this to be true. If you feel excluded in our worship, please make our pastor aware so he can address your concerns.
